Manuel Antonio National Park
Located on Costa Rica’s beautiful Pacific Coast south of the city of Quepos, the Manuel Antonio National Park is nearly 5000 acres of jungle, white sandy beaches, and fresh ocean breaches. Rated by Forbes magazine as one of the 12 most beautiful national parks in the world, Manuel Antonio is a gorgeous introduction to the beauty and mystique of Costa Rica.
Whether you’re interested in hiking, bird watching, horseback riding, swimming, zip lining, canoeing, white-water rafting, or simply relaxing and admiring the stunning views, there is something for everyone in the Manuel Antonio National Park.
The park is one of just two locations in Costa Rica where visitors can see all four types of indigenous monkeys: spider, white-faced, black howler, and the endangered squirrel monkey. Don’t be surprised if one of the simian inhabitants of the park indulge in their curiosity about human visitors, perhaps even stealing a quick snack.
Manuel Antonio also gives visitors a unique opportunity to see sloths in the wild. One of nature’s slowest-moving creatures, the sloth is both undeniably cute and a great introduction to the plethora of wildlife that make visiting Costa Rica so special. Despite being one of the smallest parks in the country, Manuel Antonio is home to 109 species of mammals and 184 species of birds.
Perhaps the most famous destinations in Manuel Antonio are the four beaches: Manuel Antonio, Espadilla Sur, Playita, and Teloro. Thanks to a unique natural formation, it is possible for visitors to walk between the beaches on low tide by following a series of sand berms, exploring tidal pools brimming with colorful marine life or catching a rare glimpse of migrating whales offshore.
The Manuel Antonio Surf School and Camp (MASS) is located just outside the park with access to some of the best beaches and breaks on Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast, including the mouth of the Quepos River, the island of Isla Damas, Dominical, and Manuel Antonio Beach. With a dedicated team of experienced professional surf instructors, MASS can help first-time surfers enjoy all of the benefits of the sport and help experienced surfers up their game.
The Manuel Antonio Surf School can also arrange for tours, accommodations, and exciting activities in and around the park to complete your 2017 Costa Rica vacation. Participants can choose from a variety of complimentary activities, including yoga in one of the most beautiful settings on the planet, professional massages, and learning how to ride and operate a paddle board.
